SAPP

SAPP dispersant is a sodium acid pyrophosphate with a pH of approximately 4.0 in a 10% solution.

Applications

SAPP dispersant is used in much the same manner as polyphosphate dispersants and is subject to the same temperature limitations. Due to its acidic nature, it is especially effective for treating cement contamination.

SAPP dispersant is efficient for bentonite muds and is often used in conjunction with a tannin or quebracho compound. It can also be used to treat calcium contamination, especially contamination resulting from cement. Because of its acidic nature, SAPP dispersant is not normally used in muds where the pH exceeds 9.5.

Drilling fluid applications for lime include increasing pH, providing excess lime as an alkalinity buffer, flocculating bentonite muds, removing soluble carbonate (CO32–) ions, controlling corrosion, and activating fatty-acid, oil-based mud additives.
